Wayne Seviere Glass - April 15, 1933 — March 5, 2026
Wayne Seviere Glass died on March 5th, 2026, at the age of 92 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for March 31st at 10 am at First Presbyterian Church of Roswell followed by the gathering of family for the interment of ashes at South Park Cemetery. Reverend Kelly Pigot will conduct the services.
Wayne Seviere Glass was born on April 15th, 1933 in Roanoke, Virginia to John Chiswell and Clarice Frye Glass. He was the youngest of three boys. He attended college at VPI (Virginia Polytechnic Institute, now known as Virginia Tech) in Blacksburg Virginia where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering. During his college years, he was a member of the Highty Tighty Marching Band and was a student director his senior year. While a member of the Highty Tighties, the band won first place in the Inaugural Parade for Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1953. He also played the clarinet along with bass and alto saxophones in the Southern Colonels Dance Band.
Shortly after graduation from college, Wayne joined the US Air Force and served for six years where he attained the rank of Captain. From 1958-1960 he was stationed at Walker Air Force Base flying the KC-135 Stratotanker. During his career as a pilot, he also flew various aircraft, one of them being the B29 Super Fortress.
While stationed in Roswell, Wayne met Mary Lou McGee and they married in 1961. They had been married for over sixty-one years when Mary Lou passed away in 2022. They had two children, Zoa and Hunter.
In 1962, Wayne began his career as an independent Insurance Agent. For the next 37 years he was an owner of Reed & Glass Insurance, later merging with RBS Insurance Co. He retired in 2000.
Throughout his life, Wayne served on various community boards and supported many organizations including the ENMMC and YMCA Foundation Boards and the Job Service Employer Committee. He also belonged to the Roswell Independent Insurance Agents Association. He became a member of the Roswell Rotary Club in 1965 and served as President in 1974. Of his notable achievements, he was most proud of receiving the Paul Harris Fellow Award in 1982 in recognition of outstanding Rotarian leadership.
Serving God and the church along with enriching his faith were of utmost importance to him. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Roswell where he served several terms as Elder and Deacon and chaired many committees throughout the years. Beginning in 1965 and spanning the next 50 years of his life, he sang bass in the chancel choir and men’s quartet. In his later years, he enjoyed singing with the Silver Chords. He participated in the Walk to Emmaus spiritual retreat and attended Community Bible Study classes for over 24 years. Leading the church committee that provided daily devotion messages to the community was one of his favorite roles.
Wayne Glass is survived by his daughter, Zoa Stuntz and her husband, Jamie; and granddaughters, Clarice, Callie, and Whitney Huckins; his son, Hunter and his wife, Sarah and granddaughter, Tatum; his brother-in-law, David McGee and his wife Mary, and nephew, Michael McGee.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his memory can be given to The Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, or the charity of your choice.
